Learner Feedback
Caring for Transgender
& Gender Diverse Patients
What learners are saying...
As a Queer woman who works in healthcare I was very impressed by this course. It makes me so relieved and glad that we are trying to educate others in the healthcare setting, as healthcare trauma is very real for people who fall under the trans/enby umbrella. My oldest is also NB and it gives me hope that as they grow up and become an adult, they will have medical staff that are more trained in how to help them. I loved the clickable definitions of each gender word, and how the presenters appeared to be genderqueer themselves. I already am well versed in this as I am apart of the LGBTQIA community, but I did find it very helpful to hear how to ask about sensitive subjects ie body parts of partners. I was very impressed and pleased with the videos. This will be immensely helpful for both the healthcare providers and the patients.
- Behavioral Health Professional, Female, White, 31, Very Liberal, IL
I am very pleased with the information that was included in this course. I think that it was a great overall presentation of client care and how to incorporate this into your practice within healthcare and other healthcare professions. I am a counselor and really enjoyed watching this three-part course and learning how to actually apply this information when working with clients who identify as a different gender or sex. I don’t think anything needed to be improved because everything that was included was very thorough and accurate.
- Therapist, Female, White, 26, Liberal, OH
I appreciated how it explained not to use your patient as a resource, while still being able to ask questions to provide the best care. I also appreciated the tips for making gender diverse inclusive care the standard of care.
- Behavioral Health Professional, Female, White, 23, Very Liberal, PA
I think this is a very informative course. It’s also a very important course for all people not just healthcare staff and providers. I did learn some new information. I think the most valuable thing I learned is to just be aware when speaking to someone. You don’t know certain things so don’t assume. Be receptive and understanding. The world needs more of that.
- Behavioral Health Professional, Female, White, 38, Liberal, MI
I feel the course was very informative. I learned the different types of gender and how professionals should approach and handle these types of patients. The course was quick and easy to follow. This course will be extremely helpful for staff and providers.
- Office, Administration, Female, Black, 30, Moderate, PA
I thought the course was comprehensive and helpful. I think that it is vital to ensure high-quality care for gender-diverse patients. I feel so much more educated on the topic of biological sex and sex at birth and I found that to be the most valuable to me. It’s critical not to ask intrusive and invasive questions, and I took note that it’s important to protect ones privacy. I felt that everything was perfectly orchestrated with the course and it is going to be very helpful for individuals within the healthcare industry.
- Office, Administration, Male, White, 23, Conservative, OH
The course was very approachable and informative for someone who may be entirely new to gender diverse care as well as reinforcing to those who have some experience with it. I think the topics that will be covered in the second part set to release in Fall 2023 would help round out a providers understanding of patient worry for their care and how to address it.
- Scribe, Female, White, 27, Liberal, TX
I think this course helped me a lot because I have never had any education on this subject. I think it helped me to understand in a better way how to give the best medical care with respect and compassion. Getting to know all of the different gender identities helped me the most. I learned a lot of new information today. I think this course will definitely help the healthcare community to understand and be more confident in giving patient care.
- Medical Assistant/Orderly, Female, White, 60, Moderate, AZ
I think one of the most valuable parts was the patient stories and sample experiences because they showed the detrimental effects of non-gender-affirming care and what sort of things healthcare staff and providers can do to make that better (by showing the positive experiences as well). I felt like I knew quite a bit of the information already, but there were some new terms that I learned such as two-spirit. I think the course was pretty good and will be useful because of both new terms and applicable situations.
- Office, Administration, Female, Asian, 20, Liberal, TX
I really enjoyed the course and I think it will help me be more respectful and compassionate in my interactions with patients.
- Office, Administration, Male, White, 57, Conservative, KY
I hope that this course can be used in many healthcare and non-healthcare settings to advance an inclusive environment in our society.
- Nurse (RN, LPN), Male, Other, 32, Liberal, CA
It was definitely eye-opening. There was a lot of terminology I was not privy to nor ever heard before. I think this course would be a great resource for current and future healthcare professionals.
- Medical Student, Male, Black, 28, Moderate, DC
Overall, this is a good course for health practitioners, and what I find most valuable is the teachings of cultural competence, which is very important in this field of work. This learning course highlights the benefits of cultural competence as it enhances patient satisfaction and compliance and most importantly reduces health disparities. There is so much quality information in this learning material

I thought the course was great and very informative. I love the tips and things that I did not think about being so important, such as making sure to display anti-discrimination signs or stickers. I also found the definition of terms to be very helpful. I think the course will be very valuable for medical staff and providers.
- Office, Administration, Female, White, 34, Very Liberal, MI
I found this course to be insightful and invaluable. As a heterosexual male individual, I have not thought about the sensitive topics that I need to modify when communicating with a transgender/spectrum individuals. I learn that I can’t make assumption based on their physical appearance. I don’t think there is anything need to improve on. This is very useful for healthcare staff and providers.
- Personal Caregiver, Male, Asian, 30, Liberal, CA
very good course that will truly make a difference in how providers interact with the transgender community.
- Technician, Female, White, 60, Conservative, FL
This course was excellent, organized, and beautifully presented. Most valuable to me were the content and delivery. Structured in a way that assumes the viewer has zero knowledge, the learning was appropriately stacked. I believe that any healthcare provider or allied health professional would derive value from the easy-to-digest way the course matter is presented. This course should be a part of every healthcare provider or allied health professional's induction to the workplace.
- Nurse (RN, LPN), Female, Mixed, 46, Liberal, CA
The course was very thorough, and covered most everything, it was a well made course, that taught me a few things I did not know, the course is a must for all providers, and the story of Luke and others broke my heart, and my first thought is disrespectful providers need to be held accountable.
- Technician, Female, White, 60, Conservative, FL
I found the course to be very insight and very helpful. I think this course will certainly help healthcare staff and provides to promote a safe environment for future patients. The instruction material was delivered in a very easy to understand manner. The content was instructional with no signs of it being off putting to any viewer of the instruction material. I did find that I learned a lot from this course. For example, I had not heard of two spirit term. This course was very meaningful all the way through and gives me motivation to continue providing the best health care I can to patients of all backgrounds. Overall, I found this course to be relevant and hope to implement what I learned moving forward.

I thought this course was very user friendly and easy to understand. It was motivating in making me care about the content and be open to learning in this area, which is pretty new for me. Learning how to tactfully discuss gender identity with patients was most valuable to me, and I learned a lot about the fact that our biological gender is a spectrum as well as the definitions for different words used in this area. I think this course will be useful for healthcare providers.
