& Preferred Language Data
What learners are saying...
This course was very educational and I think all healthcare workers should view this course.
- Medical Assistant/Orderly, Female, Black, 35, Conservative, AL
It really gave me a different way of thinking when answering what I assumed were easy questions that I now feel I can handle in a better way to make me and the patient feel more comfortable.
- Direct Care Professional, Male, White, 45, Very Liberal, AR
I really enjoyed this course. I thought it was very engaging, and I did not feel bored watching it. It was important to me that the video reviewed social constructs and described what race and ethnicity mean. It can be easy to forget about these things. I actually did not know this information was used in order to decrease healthcare inequities. That was good information to learn. I also really admired how detailed it went into emotional regulation. It can be difficult to remember to emotionally regulate when it becomes a tense situation.
- Medical Assistant/Orderly, Female, Mixed, 25, Liberal, CA
I found the course simple and easy to understand. The information between racial biases and addressing nuances in healthcare workers was really great to see in such an introductory course.
- Nurse (RN, LPN), Female, Asian, 49, Moderate, CA
It was valuable, I think it is always good to have information on collecting information that may feel invasive or sensitive. I felt the course also gives an opportunity to learn respectful and professional interactions with others.
- Behavioral Health Professional, Female, White, 44, Liberal, TX
This course covered a lot of concepts that I know and understand, but have received no formal training on, so it helped me solidify knowledge I had picked up along the way in my career and personal experiences.
- Administrative Professionals, Male, White, 37, Liberal, MO
I thought that the course was concise and informative. I learned about the importance of emotional regulation when dealing with people who may be upset that they are being asked to share their race, ethnicity, and preferred language info. I think that these skills are also going to be useful in other areas of dealing with patients as well. That was the most valuable part for me. I also didn't really understand personally the importance of gathering this information, so having it explained in the video was helpful to understanding that it's important to monitor for any disparities in care and provide the best possible outcome for everyone.
- Administrative Professionals, Female, White, 41, Very Liberal, WI
The course was perfectly paced and summarized all the key points in under 20 minutes. What I liked most were the real-world examples, especially those in which the patient might come off as hostile, because it is accurate to working in the healthcare field. I definitely learned new information on the importance of collecting race and ethnicity. I don't recall that my last course went over it, but I know that it stood out in this one.
- Pharmacy Technician, Female, Mixed, 23, Liberal, FL
I like that I was given a lot of information about how to treat patients and how to properly do certain things such as ensuring that a patient is comfortable and how to make them feel good.
- Direct Care Professional, Male, Mixed, 23, Very Conservative, IL
I liked how in-depth it went. I feel like it covered a lot of ground and that it wasn’t a vague 3-minute video about race and ethnicity. I thought that the different visualizations were super helpful in learning the material.

I I liked that the course was able to show me a broader perspective of how race can be viewed and used as a tool for positive impact in the healthcare community.

Pertains to my current employment and really made you think about those questions differently and from the patients perspective.
- Administrative Professionals, Female, White, 55, Moderate, LA
This course is a great refresher for people like me in the healthcare industry. I believe people should be exposed to information like this, not only when it come to race and ethnicity, but other areas where people interact with patients. Really worth every second. Another thing that I liked is that it is in video format which makes it much more enjoyable if it were introduced as a mandatory learning course at work.

I really liked the visuals. I loved how informative each topic was and also how organized it was. I thought this course was extremely helpful and will be useful in my professional career.
- Administrative Professionals, Female, White, 36, Conservative, CO
I thought the course was straightforward and beneficial. I thought it was nice to know the differences between race and ethnicity and why that information would be gathered and is important. It was also good to learn the different perspectives and why people would be concerned and skeptical of that information being asked of them.
- Administrative Professionals, Female, Asian, 34, Conservative, WI
The course was engaging and moved quick enough. I liked the info on how to handle patient questions about why we need to collect race/ethnicity information. I’m in a majority group (white and English speaking) so sometimes feel awkward asking and explaining why we are asking.
- Behavioral Health Professional, Female, White, 33, Liberal, TX
I thought it was just going to be educational from the standpoint of why this is done and how to address patient concerns surrounding it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it also incorporated techniques on how to maintain a calm demeanor when patients probe, disagree or become seemingly irate (excellent point that its likely one would assume the patient is irate just because they ask certain questions when in fact may not be).
- Administrative Professionals, Female, Black, 47, Liberal, VA
I really liked how thorough this course was and showed how to handle when difficult emotions arise in uncomfortable situations. I like that it was stressed that questions about ones race is not to single them out but to provide the best assistance possible for them.

I enjoyed learning ways to respond to patients in a respectful way even if the question makes me upset.

- Physician, Male, Asian, 24, Liberal, PA
I was impressed with the course. The narrator did not sound boring like what you would find in your usual training videos. I learned why healthcare providers ask for race, ethnicity and language - something I never thought about or realized before. I realized that there are many reasons why someone may or may not be comfortable providing this information and it gave me insight on how to best answer questions regarding sensitive subject matter. I cannot think of anything that would improve this course, I felt it was well thought out and put together. I really enjoyed the course.
